A bus shelter, a farmhouse and a stretch of rubble wall close to Hagar Qim and Mnajdra temples were vandalised on Thursday night.

Graffiti sprayed on the walls relate to the ongoing hunting and trapping issue. The vandals wrote insulting remarks in Maltese, mostly spelt wrongly, covering even a road sign in the area. In the main, the remarks are directed at Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, Environment Minister George Pullicino and the Nationalist Party. There is also the odd remark against the Malta Labour Party.

One graffito read "Il-kbir ghadu gej" (The worse is yet to come), and others said "Irridu nonsbu" (We want trapping), "Kacca ghal dejjem" (Hunting for ever), "No vote", "EU" and "Viva kacca u insib" (Up with hunting and trapping).

The vandalism was deplored yesterday by the Qrendi local council.

More than 15 bottles containing used engine oil were thrown over the fence into the Ghadira Nature Reserve on Tuesday night.
