The service of army personnel who turn 55 after January 8, 2008 is to be terminated, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi told Labour MP Angelo Farrugia.
The Prime Minister said the current procedure was that when soldiers wanted to continue to serve beyond 55, they had to apply for an extension three months before their birthday. Such requests were considered and if approved, the individual could continue to serve for a year.
This procedure would remain applicable for this year.
