The General Workers' Union yesterday welcomed the parliamentary resolution that officially gave the go-ahead to the SmartCity project.

The union said the fact that the resolution had been approved unanimously augured well for the country, adding that the project should create jobs and increase added value to the economy.

The GWU said it hoped the number of jobs being cited are real figures that would be achieved when IT companies open. It said educational institutions had to prepare Maltese students well. In this regard, the government should give the university and the Malta College of Arts Science and Technology the necessary resources to prepare students well.
