A man was yesterday jailed for a month for breaching bail conditions when he approached his wife's residence two months after he was arraigned on charges of threatening to kill her and her parents with a knife.

Magistrate Audrey Demicoli send Charles Brincat, of Tarxien, to jail after hearing how he had turned up outside his wife's home in Tarxien and damaged her front door, on March 11.

He had done this despite the fact that in January he had been arraigned and charged with threatening to kill his wife Ritienne and her parents Carmen and Angelo Camilleri and with having been in the illegal possession of a knife.

During the arraignment he had been granted bail on condition he did not approach his wife's Tarxien residence.

After finding that Mr Brincat had breached his bail conditions, Magistrate Demicoli also ordered his re-arrest.

The magistrate yesterday heard Angelo and Carmen Camilleri explain that on the day of the incident their daughter was at their house when Mr Brincat turned up in a violent mood.

Mr Camilleri went outside to speak to him, told him to leave and walked him to the car. But soon after, Mr and Mrs Camilleri testified, they saw Mr Brincat produce a large knife. They ran into the house and called the police.

Police Inspector Kevin Farrugia prosecuted.

Lawyer Ludvic Caruana was defence counsel.
