Four men hailing from Somalia and Sudan, residing at the Marsa open centre, are today expected to be charged with the gang rape of a 26-year-old woman.

The woman was raped at about 3.30 a.m. on Monday.

The woman had just left a bar, where she was having a drink in the company of a foreigner who resides at the open centre.

It was initially thought the woman had tried to go to sleep inside the open centre, but investigations established that the woman was assaulted as she was walking close to the open centre. She was then dragged for some distance and gang raped by at least four men.

The woman was taken to hospital for treatment but was later released.

The police made several arrests and after intensive investigations, are expected to arraign a number of suspects this morning.

Police Inspectors Louise Calleja and Jesmond Borg are heading investigations.
