Jimmie Johnson won the battle of the NASCAR Nextel Cup champions as he took the lead from Tony Stewart with three laps to go at the Atlanta Motor Speedway on Sunday.

The 2006 champion's Chevrolet finished 1.311 seconds ahead of two-time champion Stewart's Chevrolet.

It was Johnson's second-straight victory and the 25th in his career.

Juan Pablo Montoya, the ex-Formula One driver, finished fifth in a Dodge behind Jeff Burton's Chevrolet.

That of Sunday was only the fourth race in the 36-race series.
