Appreciation - John Parnis

Ray Bondin writes:

John was a great gentleman. I knew him way back in the mid-1970s when he helped me copy so many old photographs when I was trying to organise an archives for the Nationalist Party at a time when I myself was so full of idealism! John was always a hard worker, doing his part without complaining. He always worked with a smile and had a way to make you feel at ease, a great quality for a photographer.

Over the past 20 years we worked very closely together as he was, without doubt, my favourite photographer. He never complained about climbing scaffolding or other inconveniences to take photos of our restoration works. He turned up even if his services were requested at the last minute.

Above all, he was a great professional with an incredible eye for just the right moment to record photographically. He was a modest man and only interested in working, never interested in exhibitions or other form of publicity. Above all, however, I will remember his smile and the good word he put in for everyone, even in difficult times.

Goodbye my friend.
