Two Chinese girls studying in Malta will be playing their Chinese instruments during a musical concert at the Radisson Bay Hotel, on Sunday at 7.30 p.m.
Zhao Xingxia will play an instrument called guzheng (very similar to a harp) and Luo Qian will play the hulusi, a Chinese small instrument similar to a flute.
The concert, organised by the Malta-China Friendship Society and the Pembroke local council, which will shoulder most of the expenses, will conclude the programme of activities held to mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Malta and China.
The Chinese Embassy and the Chinese Cultural Centre are also assisting in the organisation of the concert. The Radisson Bay Hotel has offered its ballroom, where the concert will be held, free of charge.
The concert will feature eight young Maltese musicians who will be playing Chinese traditional and modern music. This is the first time in Malta that western musical instruments will be used to play Chinese music. The concert will be under the direction of Manuel Pirotta.
