Next month Malta is to take part in one of the largest volunteer-based environmental efforts on behalf of the aquatic world when divers and non-divers will work together in the Qui-Si-Sana Shore and Underwater Clean-Up Project, Project Aware Foundation said in a statement.
Underwater environments continue to face numerous alarming threats, including pollution, habitat degradation, overfishing and the effects of climate change.
This is true all over the world, which is why, during the week of April 22, divers and water enthusiasts worldwide will direct their full attention to the issue.
Malta too will be part of this event with the Qui-Si-Sana Shore and Underwater Clean-Up on April 21.
Diving or non-diving volunteers who would like to participate may contact Rita Vella or Harriet Davies at Diveshack Scuba School, Sliema, on 2133-8558 or 2132-0594.
Throughout the year, Project Aware will continue supporting environmental projects, raising awareness of environmental issues, promoting responsible diving practices, and encouraging divers and non-divers to get involved in efforts to preserve the underwater world, the foundation said.
Project Aware is the dive industry's leading non-profit organisation conserving underwater environments through education, advocacy and action. For more information visit www.projectaware.org.
