The quarter-final draw of the Pro Am Snooker Tournament was held recently. The eight players still in contention had to win four matches to reach this stage as there were 64 players in the opening round.
An interesting tie is that between Gozitan champion Jason Vassallo and the promising Thurston Grixti who, at 16, is the youngest in the competition. Later on this month, Grixti will be taking part in the European U-19 Championship in Wales where he will attempt to reach the knockout stages as he did last year.
Ambrose Licari, who claimed a 4-0 whitewash of Frans Mintoff before seeing off outgoing Pro Am champion Simon Camilleri 3-1, faces Kevin D'Agostino.
D'Agostino, a former Malta champion, ousted Malta no.4 seed Duncan Bezzina on his way to the quarter-finals.
The highest break of the tournament at present belongs to Bezzina. He potted an 88 in his match against D'Agostino. That effort was futile though as D'Agostino went through to win 4-2.
The prize fund of this tournament, organised by Vincent Pisani, is Lm500.
Quarter-finals: Richard Lewis vs Peter Pace, Thurston Grixti vs Jason Vassallo, Simon Zammit vs Manolito Grech, Ambrose Licari vs Kevin D'Agostino.
