France coach says he is tired of Wenger criticism
France coach Raymond Domenech
France coach Raymond Domenech hit back at Arsene Wenger yesterday after the Arsenal manager blamed striker Thierry Henry's below-par form on the number of games he has played for the French national team.
"I'm seriously starting to get tired of Mr Wenger," Domenech told a news conference at which he named his squad for upcoming internationals against Lithuania and Austria.
Wenger had notably blamed Domenech for selecting Henry for a friendly against Bosnia in August last year, shortly after the World Cup.
"He (Wenger) does not know everything and is not the only one with the right to exist in football," Domenech said.
"Even (UEFA president) Michel Platini has noted that his remarks were stupid. He (Wenger) is saying that a match in August can explain an injury in March.
"But it has to be known that every time Henry has played for France, he was playing for Arsenal three days later."
Henry damaged stomach and groin muscles in his team's Champions League exit to PSV Eindhoven earlier this month and will not play for Arsenal for the rest of this season.
The Arsenal captain has missed a number of games for the London club through various injuries but has played in every international match for France since August 16.
"We have a clear conscience because we have never made our players take risks," Domenech said.
It is not the first time Domenech has been criticised by a club coach. Last year Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho accused him of treating midfielder Claude Makelele "like a slave".
