The SmartCity project is a milestone in the country's economic development, the president of the Malta Employers' Association, Pierre Fava, said yesterday.
It is up to all stakeholders to ensure that Malta maximises the benefits that should result from this investment, he added.
The exposure the country will get from the project will benefit also other sectors of the economy, such as tourism and attract other investment projects, he said.
Mr Fava was speaking during a meeting with the Minister for Investment, Industry and IT Austin Gatt. The meeting was held to explain details about the project's implementation.
Mr Fava referred to the need for fast-track processing so that the project will start to take shape without delay.
He expressed his satisfaction that the ministry had taken action on many of the proposals that were included in the position paper the association had drawn up.
