I refer to the comments by Ray Bondin (February 20) and equally condemn the damage made to the parvis of the Mdina Cathedral.

En passant, Dr Bondin, in his capacity as coordinator of the Mdina Rehabilitation Committee, was quoted as saying that it was "a pity that the damage to the parvis of the Mdina Cathedral occurred at the same time when an important BBC film (was) being shot in Mdina".

We all welcome filming in Malta as part of direct foreign investment and part of the branding of our little, yet lovely, island, be the filming in Mdina, Valletta or elsewhere. On the other hand, in a letter to the editor (February 6), Dr Bondin forcefully complained that in his home city, Valletta, he was stopped from entering his street by a private warden working for a film production company.

While priding himself on filming in Mdina, the Silent City, Dr Bondin shunned the filming in his own street.

Is this not a case of two weights and two measures? When are we going to start talking (and writing) straight in the sincerest interest of our country?

Dr Bondin's comments are a typical example of the NIMBY syndrome (Not In My Back Yard).
