Speed camera warning signs

Roads Minister Jesmond Mugliett said yesterday that there was nothing wrong in a warning sign about a speed camera not having been pulled down after the camera was removed as this often led drivers to pay special attention when driving past.

After all, he said, many countries put up such signs without installing the cameras with the sole intention of controlling speeding. Although it was true that people may get used to the fact that there was actually no speed camera, drivers may find they were being monitored by mobile speed cameras.

The minister was replying to a question by Labour MP Carmelo Abela.
