World Rally champion Sebastien Loeb reduced the gap on current series leader Marcus Gronholm with a comfortable victory in Mexico.
Frenchman Loeb won by 55.8 seconds to move within four points of Finnish rival Gronholm after four rounds.
Loeb had lost the lead at the previous round in Norway where Gronholm took over with a second place behind fellow Finn and Ford team-mate Mikko Hirvonen. But the champion hit back in Mexico and then admitted he was still looking for more from his car.
Loeb told www.autosport.com: "We are fighting (with the other teams) but we are not easily leading, so we have to continue to work and to improve."
Gronholm had the satisfaction of taking the final super-special stage as he outpaced his rival Loeb in front of the fans.
The Finn said: "We were maybe down to seventh or something on the first day so it was very bad. So it's good to be second."
