The General Workers' Union suspended industrial action at Enemalta yesterday, just hours after directives came into force.

The action was called off after the Enemalta management informed the union it would be forwarding its proposals for a new collective agreement by tomorrow.

The union ordered the action in connection with the workers' collective agreement, which expired in 2005.

The union has, however, warned it would reinstate the actions by Thursday if the management failed to deliver.

Section secretary Rebecca Gatt said the action was suspended as a sign of goodwill following the intervention of the Director of Industrial Relations.

Earlier in the day, Enemalta accused the GWU of trying to cause its clients inconvenience describing its actions as "capricious".
