Swieqi traffic system

I agree with Daniel Debono's letter about the one-way system introduced in Swieqi (March 7).

In my opinion the decision that Triq Is-Sidra should be one-way is correct but it should be the other way round so that drivers coming from San Gwann - especially for the coming months due to the bridgeworks - can reach the Upper Gardens side of Swieqi without having to go near the Swieqi tunnels, especially when this part is very busy in the weekends.

If the public bus is the problem, an exception can be made like in Gzira and Savoy. After all, unless I am mistaken, the bus only passes through Swieqi twice an hour.

I would have started with just making Triq Is-Sidra one-way without any long and perhaps unnecessary detours and then followed it up later, when the bridge works are ready and one can assess the impact of making Triq Is-Sidra one-way on the other streets.

All that money spent on signs, painting roads and wardens could have been spent on trying to make the pedestrians safer when passing through the tunnels and getting to Paceville.
