The hunters say the government will lose 7,000 votes if they don't get what they're asking for. Well, for one thing most of them are already hard-core Labourites and secondly, there are thousands more out here who can make their votes count too if the Government gives in to the challenges of this uncivilised minority.

The honest hard-working people of this country are sick of bearing the cost of the thousands taking long periods of sick leave to practise their blood sport. We're sick of being told to move off public property so they can kill without difficulty that which we're trying to enjoy and share.

We will take it no more.

For many of us, Malta's entry into the EU also meant serious protection of the environment and finally a curbing of this unacceptable "pastime", but the government has not been taking the matter very seriously.

And by the way, let's start giving the hunters free optician services and spectacles so that they can distinguish a quail from a honey buzzard, a turtle dove from a flamingo. It seems to me that, since they make out to be such law-abiding citizens, they're shooting protected species by mistake!
