The Faculty of Science is organising an Open Week between tomorrow and Friday at the University Common Room, Students' House.
The faculty is currently composed of seven departments including Biology, Chemistry, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, Mathematics, Physics and Statistics and Operations Research. The faculty offers a range of degree courses at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
The scope of this open week is to encourage the younger generation to pursue a career in the sciences by arousing their interest in science subjects. Teachers, parents and students will be informed about the various undergraduate and postgraduate degree courses, will have the opportunity to listen to talks about work carried out in the faculty and undertake a tour of the laboratories.
Sessions for schools are being held in the mornings tomorrow, on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday for which secondary schools and sixth form students are invited.
A special session will also be held tomorrow at 5 pm. This session, aimed at the public, will be addressed by the pro-rector for academic affairs of the university, Professor Alfred J. Vella, who is also Dean of the Faculty of Science, and by Omar Saliba, a recent graduate of the Faculty of Science, who is the recipient of the 'Achievement in Chemistry 2006' award by Oxford University Press.
The event is sponsored by the University of Malta and Science on Stage. More details are available on tel: 2340-2274, e-mail: science4u@um.edu.mt or Website: http://events.um.edu.mt/science4u
