A thousand words would not do justice to define my teacher, mentor, and great friend Olaug Vethal, my art teacher at sixth form.

I speak of a great artist, but most important of all, a beautiful human being. A lady who stopped and noticed details and niches in life that we can hardly dream of exploring, and transferred them to her paintings; a woman who passed on so much energy and faith to her students. She was a person who did great things - she was humble and honest, she stood for the elixir of beauty and truth. She transformed this world into a colourful arcadia.

The thought that she no longer walks along our plain of existence creates a large void but those of us who had the honour of knowing and loving her, have a story to tell - we can walk among a crowd every day of our lives, lift our heads and know one thing: we knew a great woman who painted colourful skies, depicted vibrations of movement of jazz players on a cool summer's night, and transformed the ordinary into the extraordinary.

It was great to know her, because undoubtedly she made whoever crossed her path a better person. May she rest in peace.
