The Police Commissioner should be aware of the parking problem near the Sliema police station.

Police cars are parked along with the officers' personal vehicles right in front of the police station with little or no regard for pedestrians using this part of the pavement, which is rather busy.

At times, four cars are parked on this small stretch of pavement. Pedestrians have to jaywalk to cross to the other side. The situation is worsened (from personal experience) by the arrogance shown by some police officers when they are advised to make way for pedestrians. Bollards would guarantee free space for pedestrians.

Another problem is the reserved parking space at the top of Manwel Dimech Street, under the police station just before the zebra crossing. As a motorist, I understand that cars cannot be parked (according to the Highway Code) "on or within four metres of a pedestrian crossing, from the side of oncoming traffic or within the limits of zig-zag lines on the approach side of the crossing". So how come the reserved area starts closer to the zebra crossing than stated here, blocking the view of pedestrians and drivers alike?

What are we waiting for to apply the laws across the board? Do we have to wait for a tragic accident before we take the necessary action? I expect much better from the police force who are there to see that people abide by the laws. Or are they a cut above the rest?
