We have to be thankful to architect Giacomo Pirazzoli, as Dr Simon Mercieca pointed out (The Sunday Times, March 4) for his interest in our national heritage and, in particular, for his interest in the CalG fresco at the chapel of the Crucifix in the parish church.
We must also thank Dr Carmelo Mifsud Bonnici, MP, for his constant interest in this project and the archpriest, Fr Joe Mifsud, for his constant insistence to make sure that this project finally gets off the ground.
However, I find it very unethical of everyone concerned to forget the great effort and all the preparatory work that has already been carried out for this project by the Cottonera Rehabilitation Project when we sponsored the preliminary investigation and excellent report of Roberta de Angelis who, for months, worked on this project.
The restorers who have now been showing interest in this project should acknowledge this fact as well as that their project is obviously much helped by the preliminary investigation and considerable documentation that has been finalised by Ms de Angelis. The locals involved in this project, who have copies of this report, are very aware of this.
