The new girls' secondary school in Qormi is expected to open its doors in September, the Prime Minister said.
Dr Gonzi, who visited the school with Education Minister Louis Galea on Tuesday, said the government was also building a new school in Cospicua and has plans for other schools in Gozo, Mosta and Pembroke.
The government is spending Lm3 million on the Qormi school which will have 45 classrooms, 18 resource rooms, 17 science and technology laboratories and five computer labs, among other facilities. The school is being equipped with solar water heaters and panels. Recreational facilities include a nine-a-side synthetic turf football pitch and athletic track, and a Greek theatre.
Dr Galea visited also the Lily of the Valley secondary school in Mosta where a new multi-purpose pitch has been constructed.
Dr Galea said the government will shortly embark on the building of a secondary school at Ta' Zokrija in Mosta.
