I concur with Theodore Sammut regarding the horrible state of the Valletta bus terminus. It is sadly in need of changes in order to make public transportation more comfortable and attractive both for locals and tourists who use the service. The existing terminus is chaotic, dirty, and dangerous and does nothing for the comfort of the customers waiting for their ride, especially during inclement weather.

Whatever happened to the grand scheme to take the terminus underground and replace the current terminus with public gardens and walkways?  I remember seeing a model of this project at St James Cavalier some years back. The government talks a lot about the heritage of Valletta and its importance to tourism but when it comes to action there's complete silence.

Witness the state of the old Opera House site, the entrance gate to Valletta, and the bus terminus. If the government cannot find the funds needed to build the underground terminus, then the least they can do is modernise the above-ground terminus. They can replace the ramshackle kiosks and ticket offices that were built many years ago with a modern, attractive building where customers can seek protection from the heat of summer and the rain and cold weather in the winter months.

This should include comfortable seating areas, concessions and washrooms. The surrounding area can also be improved by repaving it with paving stones, benches, and some greenery. These changes would offer a more welcoming site at the entrance to Valletta.

And while they're at it, how about modernising the bus fleet?

It's time for action, not more talk.
