Reading Mr Vince Cachia's letter (The Sunday Times, February 18) made me tremble to think that there is any one ready to report someone for feeding stray cats.

I sincerely hope that the police officer who took the report against the person who fed the cats at the University of Malta was wise enough to enter a counter report and take action against the person who did it - stopping someone from feeding a hungry animal is clearly cruelty to animals and is forbidden by law.

There is no law to hinder anyone from feeding stray cats (although there are by-laws forbidding the feeding of pigeons). Mr Cachia should make public the whereabouts of this Good Samaritan and I would be the first to dare him harass me for feeding any stray animal.

An Internet forum about the issue should be set up so that animal lovers can meet and join forces against people who would dare harm these poor, innocent creatures and anyone who is ready to help them.
