Ian Galdes, 24, of Qormi, who had served time for his connection with a hold-up at the Bank of Valletta branch in Qormi in November 2001, was found dead at his mother's house in Triq San Guzepp on Thursday afternoon.

The police said yesterday it is suspected Mr Galdes died of a drug overdose.

During the 2001 hold-up by four men, including Mr Galdes, Police Constable Roger Debattista, who was on guard duty there, was shot dead. Andy Calleja, who was subsequently found guilty of shooting the policeman, got a life sentence.

An autopsy on Mr Galdes was held at the hospital morgue yesterday.

Mr Galdes, who ended his jail term in November last year, was found dead in his room by his brother.

Magistrate Joseph Apap Bologna appointed a team of court experts to help in an inquiry.

The police are investigating.
