No surcharge on meter rents

In his letter entitled Expensive Power (February 27), Oliver T. Scicluna from Marsascala asked whether the surcharge is being levied on meter rents and whether this surcharge is 4.5 times the electricity consumed. He then promptly answered his own questions by declaring that this is daylight robbery.

It seems Mr Scicluna is unaware that the surcharge is levied on the consumption of both water and electricity and this has led him to compare the surcharge solely with the cost of electricity consumption. There is no surcharge on meter rents.

The bill Mr Scicluna refers to is computer generated and the accusation of "daylight robbery" is spurious.
