St Edward's College is promoting environmental awareness through a competition for its students based on the arrival of the Earthrace challenger boat, due in Malta for refueling on April 18.

Students will have to prepare a project based on global warming and the use of alternative, clean-burning bio-diesel.

Closing date is May 5 and entries will be judged by a three-person independent panel. It is open to students between the ages of 10 and 14. The winners will receive a computer. The Earthrace challenger boat, which is being brought over by the Edible Oil Refinery Co Ltd (EORC), leaves on Tuesday from Barbados and aims to circumnavigate the globe in under 65 days. It will be arriving in Malta for refuelling with EORC's bio-fuel and a short break on April 18.

St Edward's College students will visit the boat during its stay at the Grand Harbour Marina, in Vittoriosa.
