Rock of ages

Book of the month: "ROCK 'N' ROLL PEOPLE"<br>Consultant editor: David Sandison, Bounty Books, ISBN 978-0-7537-1335-8

This month we're highlighting a book for all those who say we don't feature enough popular culture in Showtime. This semi-coffee table (call it an espresso table) book, which is obtainable from Allied Retail and Commercial Co. Ltd and priced at just below Lm5, is interesting because it is written by the artists themselves. From Bob Dylan, through the Sex Pistols and up to Nirvana, this is an "autobiographical" saga spanning the last 45 years of rock 'n' roll history.

For most people the history of rock begins with Elvis and Bill Haley, so this book does not quite come in at the birth of rock, but about seven or eight years later.

However, it most certainly covers the golden age of popular music and is a must-have for any student of the genre.

It is also packed solid with some wonderful black and white photographs of the artists through their careers. As well as Dylan, we chart the development of Lennon and McCartney, The Rolling Stones, Bob Marley, Bruce Springsteen, David Bowie, Blondie and others.

Rock 'n' roll people has a forward by Allan Jones, a former editor of Melody Maker, who were responsible for the book's compilation. This is an invaluable and very affordable addition to the library of any popular music aficionado.
