Axwell biography
Axwell, who hails from the Swedish countryside, found that music was in his blood from a tender age. He started playing the drums at age nine but became frustrated with his fellow classmates who could not keep up. At the age of 13 he traded his drums for a computer, so that he could play all the instruments himself. It was the start of a beautiful friendship.
Axwell's energy infects everything he touches - his deejay sets, his remixes, and of course his productions.
Having earned his spurs by releasing a number of quality tracks on Soulfuric under the guises of Mambana & Jetlag, Axwell has now firmly established himself in the mainstream through tracks such as Feel the Vibe and Watch The Sunrise and through his fantastic remixes for acts like Hard-Fi, Moby and Roger Sanchez.
Feel the Vibe is undoubtedly his biggest track to date - in fact many would argue that it's the biggest club record of 2005 having rocked dance floors everywhere. It was released on Swedish label Nero Recordings in July 2004. It wasn't long before the major labels in the UK were knocking on the door and sure enough the track was signed to Ministry of Sound. The inevitable vocal version was recorded and it reached the UK Top 20 in August 2005.
Having set such a high standard with Feel the Vibe it was never going to be easy to follow it up, but with the incorporation of his own Axtone Records imprint in 2005 Axwell has managed to raise the bar once again. In May 2005 we saw Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso unite on vinyl for the first time to give us Together - an anthem that seven months later is still doing damage wherever it's played.
On the follow up, Watch The Sunrise, Axwell joined forces with the UK's Steve Edwards - who is best known for his tracks with Cassius, X-press 2 and Sandy Rivera.
Together they delivered an unforgettable slab of peak-time house that became a summer anthem after its release in August 2005. That success is now set to spill into 2006 as Axtone have just released fresh new remixes by Bob Sinclar as well as an Axwell Re-Mode.
On the DJ'ing front the last couple of years has seen Axwell playing week in week out - from Miami to Kiev, Ibiza to London, South Africa to Manilla - every corner of the Globe has been lucky enough to tap into the Axwell magic.
The demand for gigs in 2006 is even greater and he'll be taking in trips to Dubai, a two-week tour to Australia which took place last month, and a trip to South East Asia is planned for next monthg.
Off the back of his success as a deejay a number of companies have wanted to capture the live Axwell experience on CD. 2006 will see the first Axwell mix CD's hitting the shelves - first up in January is Clubbers Guide to 2006 for Ministry of Sound Australia, followed in April by House Mode - Scandinavian Sessions for Disco:Wax/Warners in Denmark.
Undeniably one of the best and in demand remixers of recent times Axwell has the gift of being able to deliver quality mixes for acts as diverse as Hard-Fi, Moby, Usher and N*E*R*D.
His remix of Hard-Fi's Hard To Beat has to be one of the best remixes of the year and turned the Mercury Prize nominated rock band into dancefloor favourites, picking up the accolade of Pete Tong's Essential New Tune along the way.
Axwell enjoys the challenge of remixing artists in a different genre but has also lent his talents to other house music artistes and often an Axwell remix can propel a project onto bigger and better things.
His mixes of Rasmus Faber Get Over Here and Jerry Ropero & Denis The Menace Corocao lead to these tracks being signed by Azuli and Subliminal respectively.
His remix for Roger Sanchez Turn Up the Music has been massive all year and they have just cut the video to Axwell's version. He's just finished remixing the new Deep Dish single Dreams for Positiva.
