Early entries for this year's Showtime writing competition have already begun to trickle in to our office, which is some indication that the format for this year's competition is a popular one. This time around you are being asked to write a "newspaper" feature on a subject connected to the arts. It can be a review of a theatre production, a concert or an art exhibition. Or it might be a preview of an artistic/cultural event like a play, a recital, a concert, or even a rock concert. Then again you might wish to write a piece on one of our heritage sites or events like Bianca Notte or some historical reenactment. You may even come up with a completely original idea for an arts article, which would be fine by us.
The article should be no more than 600 words long and be written in a journalistic style, which should make the reader want to read the piece.
Entries should be sent to:
The Showtime Writing Competition 2007,
Allied Newspapers Ltd, 341 St Paul's Street, Valletta.
The competition is open to all readers of The Times and The Sunday Times, but not to employees and dependants of Allied Newspapers Ltd.
Each entry (you may send as many as you like) must be your own work and neither previously published. It must also be in the English language.
All entries must reach us by October 30 and will be judged by a panel of experienced newspaper people, both editors and journalists.
Prizes will be:
• From Allied Retail And Commercial Ltd: Lm50 worth of books. • From Masquerade: Two tickets for each of their performances throughout 2008. • From the St James Centre For Creativity: Two tickets per month to the St James cinema.
So get writing and good luck.
