Stand-up comedy evenings have, in recent years, become as much a part of Malta's entertainment scene as musical theatre and straight drama. In many ways stand-up has become even more popular than legitimate theatre. But why? Well... it's instantly assimilated, guarantees a good evening out, very funny and comes with a built-in feel-good factor that is irresistible.
This month's International Stand-up Comedy Show will be the seventh version to be brought here by LOL Productions. It will take place at the Dolmen Resort on March 16 and 17 and once again comes bursting with top comedy talent.
Compering the event and a headline act in his own right will be André Vincent who, like the rest of the bill, will be no stranger to viewers of the Paramount Comedy Channel. He has also hosted a Saturday night show on the UK's Channel Four, as well as appearing successfully at the Edinburgh Festival.
He will introduce young Jewish comic Matt Kirschen, who is seen by many as one of the hottest young stand-ups to come through the club circuit recently. Great things are predicted for this hugely talented and offbeat artiste.
Top of the bill will be award winning star comic Rob Rouse. After winning Channel Four's prestigious "So You Think You're Funny" contest at the Edinburgh Festival, he has topped bills all over the UK and has become one of Britain's top comedians.
So quite a night - indeed two - is/are in prospect. Oh and just one more thing: This is adult entertainment with a capital A... so leave great aunt Maud at home.
