The Union Haddiema Maghqudin has threatened industrial action at both St Vincent de Paul Residence and other government homes for the elderly unless the government agrees to give care workers an allowance.

The union's health section secretary Joe Bonello said months of negotiations with the authorities have yielded no results leaving the union with no alternative but to take industrial action.

He said the last meeting with government representatives was held six months ago. He said that although the Office of the Prime Minister had to get back to the union about the allowance, it never did.

When contacted, Mr Bonello said the type of action has not yet been decided.
