In recent debates and speeches, we heard Transport Minister Jesmond Mugliett say, among other things, that the bus terminus in Valletta is soon going to be upgraded and that tenders for Valletta Road in Zurrieq would be issued in a short time.

Well, this is surely good news though naturally overdue. About the bus terminus, many people protested both verbally and in writing. For many years now, on many routes, people were subjected to having to wait standing in rain or scorching sun for a bus to appear. No roof, no benches, nothing. It is about time that the politicians start giving a thought for the old, the disabled, the pregnant, and all those who for many years suffered the humiliation of having to wait - sometimes for an unreasonable time - for the next bus.

As for Valletta Road, it surely needs to be rebuilt since it is full of pot holes. Many cars have broken down or stopped on this road and one cannot fathom why it was left in such a deplorable state for so many years, when there was always a prominent minister coming from Zurrieq apart from MPs from both sides of the House. They must have all experienced the trauma of driving through this terrible road, especially when it rains.

But it is better late than never. So I hope that no more time is lost and the sooner this road is rebuilt the better for all the thousands who use it every day.
