While most of the local athletes are preparing for the GSSE, some of the sprinters have been training hard to try and qualify for the Euro Indoor Championships in Birmingham between Friday and Sunday.
Following results in three pre-season track and field meetings and overseas competitions, the MAAA has selected Darren Gilford, Charlene Attard and Diane Borg to represent the country in Birmingham.
Gilford's selection was straightforward as he had no close competitor in his event. In the other case, the situation was different.
On February 17, at around 2 p.m., Charlene Attard established a new record at Marsa in the 60m (outdoor) with a time of 7.77 secs.
At around the same time, but at the Brunel University, Borg also set a new record of 7.71 secs for the 60m indoor.
On February 23, Attard burst out of the blocks and stopped the clock in a new mark of 7.66 seconds.
In a statement, the MAAA said it saw a great future for Attard and Borg. Together with the two next fastest sprinters, they can work together to challenge for the 4x100m relay gold medal in Monaco.
Two years ago the Euro Indoors were held in Madrid. On that occasion, the women's 60m sprint was won by Kim Gevaert (Belgium) in 7.16 seconds. Heidi Hannula (Finland), with a time of 7.44 seconds, was eighth.
