Lotto receivers' safety and security was discussed at a "productive" meeting between the Lotto Receivers Union, the Union Haddiema Maghqudin and senior police officials at Police Headquarters in Floriana yesterday, the unions said.

In a joint statement, the unions said that various ideas were exchanged and proposals were made on what measures could be introduced to provide more long-term security for lotto receivers.

The LRU and the UHM also agreed to organise a seminar for lotto receivers so that, through the participation of police officials, the receivers would be made more aware about new security measures.

Earlier this month, the LRU urged its members to limit the amount of cash they carried in transit and to take all the necessary safety precautions after lotto receivers saw a spate of robberies in the past few months - there have been four since the beginning of the year alone.
