As a follow-up of the ambassador's courtesy visit to the FOI earlier this month, a meeting was held between FOI director-general Wilfred Kenely and Olaf Reick, secretary at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany. The meeting, held on February 12, was primarily focused on alternative energy sources and bilateral trade between the two countries.

On the following day, Mr Kenely, accompanied by METIC assistant project manager Jeanelle Catania, delivered a presentation to Italian Ambassador Paolo Andrea Trabalza. The presentation was focused on the Mediterranean Trading and Innovation Centre (METIC) project.

The FOI officials explained that the aim of the project is to promote collaboration between enterprises and academia operating across a range of focus sectors, namely alternative energy sources, rehabilitation of historical sites, telemedicine and e-learning, municipal waste and wastewater treatment, as well as agriculture and aquaculture.

The FOI is one of the major partners involved in this project, together with the University of Malta, the University of Palermo (lead partner) and Confindustria Sicilia.
