MCAST students conducted a two-week on-the-job training at Maltacom acquiring hands-on experience on Maltacom's cutting edge, state-of-the-art telecom solutions.
The MCAST students reading for a Higher National Diploma in IT received the training in various areas of Maltacom's packet-based infrastructure - which is the result of the company's Next Generation Softswitch upgrade providing for the roll-out of next generation services.
"We are committed to giving students a unique opportunity to familiarise themselves with the versatile world of modern telecommunications. We consider this as part of our responsibility to the local community - the majority of whose members are customers of the Maltacom Group," said John Saliba, Group Director HR and Administration.
The Maltacom Group has always enjoyed a healthy and pro-active relationship with MCAST. The company takes on MCAST students as part of the national summer worker scheme and currently sponsors 14 students on a three-year course under the Technician Apprenticeship Scheme.
Meanwhile the Group has used MCAST's professional training services in various skills including call centre functions for potential "Dial It" employees, customer care courses for Maltanet employees, business English and Maltese as well as finance for non-finance people.
"Maltacom is proud to be on the forefront in teaming up with the education and vocational training institutions for the benefit of young people, who are tomorrow's workforce," said Mr Saliba.
