Only 30 warnings were issued by local wardens during carnival weekend in Gozo following a concerted education campaign initiated by the Gozo Joint Committee a few months ago whereby wardens issued warnings in place of fines.

At the request of the local councils, more wardens were deployed in the streets, most of them being involved in the management of traffic at Mgarr harbour and in Nadur where, during the evening festivities, they were at their post until 2 a.m. The committee said one must appreciate that the extreme influx of cars required maximum monitoring by both the police and the wardens, who issued fines only in serious cases.
