The Maltese IPv6 Task Force, led by the Malta Communications Authority (MCA), has launched two surveys to get a wider and clearer picture of the current situation of internet in Malta.
One is intended for internet service providers (ISP) and one for business organisations.
An active contribution from the various electronic communications industry sectors is considered essential in achieving this aim, the task force said.
The aims of the IPv6 Task Force, launched in October 2005, are to explore the required milestones leading to an eventual nationwide migration to IPv6, the next-generation protocol used by various devices connected to internet to communication with one another.
In order to provide a facility that could be used by interested parties to experiment with IPv6 on a "live" network, a test bed running on IPv6 was set up. Interested parties can now connect to this test-bed and gain v6 experience before going live on their own networks.
The task force acts as a centre of excellence on the subject and evangelises the need to fast-track migration.
Connections with similar groups in other jurisdictions are being established to ensure that Malta remains at the forefront of best practice in this area. Indeed, it has affiliated itself to the EU IPv6 task force.
The ISP survey is available at www.questionpro.com/ akira/TakeSurvey?id=623933.
The business survey is available at www.questionpro.com/ akira/TakeSurvey?id=623785.
