Women's world record holder Jang Mi-ran has raised the earnings bar for fellow South Korean weightlifters by signing a three-year deal worth more than $500,000.

Olympic silver medallist Jang, who holds a world record in the over 75kg category with a combined total of 318kg in the snatch and clean and jerk, signed the contract with Goyang City's provincial government.

The salary is a record for a South Korean lifter - male or female.

"I should live up to my name and salary because I am the first person to receive so much money," Yonhap News reported Jang as saying at a news conference.
