Ford Europe has named Jan Brentebraten to the newly-created position of director, flexifuel and alternative fuel vehicles strategy. In his new role Mr Brentebraten will be responsible for driving Ford's flexifuel and alternative fuel vehicle sales and marketing activities in Europe at a time when the company is introducing the technology to more and more markets.

"Today the public can positively influence climate change without giving up basic needs such as personal mobility," said Mr Brentebraten.

"Flexifuel technology is available today and it's affordable, not only for the environment, but also for the customer. I am confident that the demand for this type of technology will continue to grow rapidly, especially as the European Union works to increase the use of bio-fuels in the future," he added.

Before assuming his current role, Mr Brentebraten was director, European import/export operations for Ford. Since joining Ford in 1978, he has held a variety of sales and marketing positions, including managing director of Ford Scandinavia and president of Mazda Motor Europe. Mazda Motor Corporation is an affiliate of Ford Motor Company.

In 2006, Ford announced a £1 billion (approx. €1.5 billion) investment to develop a broad range of environmental technologies for Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo cars, aimed at making mobility more sustainable.
