A man, 41, was yesterday sentenced to two years imprisonment, suspended for four years, after pleading guilty to defiling a 13-year-old girl.
The crime occurred last December and during the previous months in various parts of the island, the court heard.
A protection order effective for three years was issued to protect the victim and her family. This bars the accused from approaching the young girl, following her movements, contacting or molesting her.
The accused pleaded guilty to all charges during the early stages of the case and collaborated with the police during investigations.
The court prohibited the publication of names of both the victim and accused to protect the girl's identity.
Inspector Raymond Aquilina prosecuted. Lawyer David Farrugia Sacco was defence counsel.
