Green captures Slam Dunk title with flying windmill
Boston Celtics` Gerald Green leaps over a table en route to a dunk during the NBA All-Star slam dunk contest in Las Vegas last weekend.
Gerald Green, of the Boston Celtics, flew over a table and sank a windmill jam to win the NBA's Slam Dunk title on Saturday.
Green's competition-closing dunk earned him a perfect score from a panel of judges including past champions Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins and Vince Carter.
In the other marquee event of the night, Miami Heat forward Jason Kapono upset Gilbert Arenas of the Washington Wizards and defending champion Dirk Nowitzki of the Dallas Mavericks to win the three-point shooting title.
The events were part of the festivities leading up to the All-Star game which was being played in Las Vegas last night.
This is the first time the annual event is being held in a city without an NBA team.
"It's tough to be creative since just about every kind of dunk has been done," Green said after winning the 22nd Slam Dunk title.
"I tried to pull something out nobody had seen before."
The 6-foot-8 forward, playing in his second NBA season, soared over a table placed in the middle of the lane before slamming the ball home in front of 18,000 fans at the Thomas and Mack Centre.
Miami's Dwyane Wade successfully defended his Skills Challenge title, defeating Kobe Bryant (Lakers), LeBron James (Cavaliers) and Chris Paul (Hornets).
