The Art of Fans and Umbrellas from Hangzhou is on show at St James Cavalier, in Valletta until March 30.

The exhibition forms part of the activities marking the Chinese New Year.

In China, fans possess artistic charm and unique national characteristics with the earliest appearing fan going back in time more than 3,000 years.

The Hangzhou handicraft umbrella combines practical use and art and is considered to be an exotic flower in the garden of Chinese national arts and crafts. When closed, it looks like a piece of bamboo.
