I was on holiday, in Malta, with my husband, staying at the Hotel Metropole in Sliema and had visited the island for two and a half weeks when, after watching the ceremony of the noon gun on the January 25, I slipped on the shiny pavement outside the police station in Valletta. I sustained a broken ankle in two places.
While waiting for the ambulance, two police officers cared for me, for which I was extremely grateful. They were PS Brandon J. Borg and WPC Alison Formosa. They both spent quite some time with me at a time when I was in a great deal of pain.
I wish to thank them publicly for their most friendly assistance.
I was taken to St Luke's Hospital and subsequently operated upon. So I also wish to thank the staff of St Luke's and also the staff of the Hotel Metropole for their very good care and friendliness. My husband and I were very impressed with the island and its people.
