On January 29 we left a briefcase containing our passport, apart from cheque books and other valuables and documents, at the Floriana car park. On returning there to recover them they were gone and we reported the matter to the police.
The assistance we were given exceeded our expectations: Two officers returned with us to the car park, reviewed the film in the security camera, identified where the briefcase had been left and who had taken it. They contacted the persons seen taking it into a car and recovered the missing objects via Mosta police station, delivering them to my home. We cannot describe the immense relief felt in passing from near despair at losing these documents to the joy of having them returned to me in a matter of a few hours.
The police officers involved are PC T. Chircop and PC Noel Muscat who reviewed the film in the security camera and PS P. Bonnici as well as PC V. Falzon who assisted in the recovery of the lost briefcase.
While these men may consider their efforts to be all in a day's work, we feel obliged to make this public account of their efficiency and of our heartfelt admiration for their commitment and swift employment of the means at their disposal.
While this may not be the solution of a major crime, it is certainly an important example of how individual police officers can earn the respect and cooperation of the public for the whole corps of police. For them it may be the routine fulfilment of normal duty. For us it was superb service sparing us endless trouble and anxiety. It is indeed an added pleasure to praise them publicly to encourage them and others in their indispensable public service.
