Embellishment works in Balzan square

Now that embellishment works on the site which used to be the playing field behind Balzan parish church are at a very advanced stage, I feel we should show our appreciation and thanks to the local council for this initiative.

This site has been ably transformed into an area which does credit to our village. It comprises a spacious underground public convenience, a recreational area for kids and their families, and a new modern lighting system, landscaped with trees and shrubs. The new lighting system which has been installed will surely make this spot a very beautiful and attractive venue for the families who would like to spend an hour of relaxation in a safe environment especially throughout the summer evenings. Moreover, the floodlighting at the back of the church, which has brought out the church's architectural features, has enhanced the whole ambience of the place.

May I suggest that, as the final works are still in progress, a similar floodlighting system will be installed on the roof of the church to light the dome, an initiative which has been already taken in other localities. This project can be a combined initiative between the local council and the parish, and will be a fitting gesture to mark the 300th anniversary (1707-2007) from the completion of this elegant dome which crowns our parish church. I am sure that the Balzan community will approve with satisfaction this idea. Moreover, the floodlit dome surmounting the apsidal back of the church will provide an excellent backdrop to the scenario of this project.
