A man was yesterday charged with trying to seriously injure another man when he allegedly assaulted him with a knife.

Christopher Micallef, 40, was charged with threatening and assaulting Paul Bugeja, trying to seriously injure him and with the illegal possession of a knife in Hamrun on Wednesday at about 4.30 p.m.

Mr Micallef was remanded in custody after Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani heard how he had an alcohol problem. Police Inspector Mario Tonna prosecuted. Lawyer Raphael Fenech Adami appeared for the man.
