The General Workers' Union has registered an industrial dispute with Bank of Valletta over what the union has termed the bank's failure to grant recognition to the union.
According to the GWU, instead of verifying union membership of the various categories of employees, the bank had acted according to a declaration by the Malta Union of Bank Employees, irrespective of what the employees wanted and of the facts related to membership.
Bank employees, the union noted, had agreed over joint recognition and the bank, therefore, should take the necessary steps to verify the situation and accept the GWU's request.
The union said in a statement that it reserved the right to take the actions it deemed fit.
